Troy Shambhala in May

The Shambhala Meditation Group of Troy is conducting practice sessions online via Zoom. We hope you’ll join us. Meeting this way has been surprisingly rich these past few weeks. Email us and we will send you the link for the meeting (or register on the web page.) Normal time, Thursdays, 6:30 – 7:30 PM.

Starting at 6:00 PM, we are giving meditation instruction for the new comers. So if you would like a refresher on the practice, log in a bit before then. And if you know someone who wishes to learn how to meditate, please let them know about our sessions. Geography is no longer an issue and everyone is welcome.

The session will include sitting, teaching, and discussion.
If you have not used the Zoom meeting before, please log in a few minutes early to check with the host regarding your equipment, mainly testing the mic and camera.

Special Announcement Regarding Online Sitting

Dear Troy Shambhala,

Out of an abundance of caution regarding the coronavirus, we are suspending in-person sitting at our physical location at Sage Colleges (no sitting on Mar. 12.) As precious as it is to meet and practice together in our little space, there is too much unknown about the spread of the virus to continue blindly. Until we have a clearer picture of the ongoing risk, we feel that it is best to suspend and seek other ways to meet.

We are planning to set up online meeting using the Zoom meeting platform. This is a surprisingly good way to practice together, and we regularly use it in the Shambhala community. Our first online session will happen on Thursday, March 19 (every Thursday evening 6:30-7:30 pm until further notice.) If you would like to join us, you can simply register through the featured program links on the side bar (or scroll down).

We would like to hear your thoughts on this, and anything else. Meeting online could open opportunities to deepen our practice with multiple sessions a week, separate study groups, book groups, or special practice sessions. We hope that when we return to normalcy, we’ll have gained a valuable resource.

Looking forward to connecting with you. Any questions please email: [email protected]

Troy Shambhala in March

Dear Troy Shambhala,

The sunlight is increasing day by day. Who knows what it will uncover! Let’s find out. Sitting each Thursday in March is from 6:30-7:30 PM, as usual. And do join us for the following extras after sitting:

March 5: Group dinner in downtown Troy – After sitting we’ll plan for a group dinner in downtown Troy to celebrate the new year (optional of course). It has been wonderful to reignite this tradition.
—————————————

—————————————

March 19: True Perception – Explore the dharma art teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in this ongoing series of videos.

Troy Shambhala in February

Dear Troy Shambhala,

Each day brings more sun, gently coaxing us into more and more activity. Come do the most active thing: sit.  Sitting is from 6:30-7:30 PM, as usual. And do join us for the following extras after sitting:

Feb 6: Group dinner in downtown Troy – After sitting we’ll plan for a group dinner in downtown Troy to celebrate the new year (optional of course). It has been wonderful to reignite this tradition.
—————————————

Feb 13: Lovingkindness Practice: We’ll devote half of the session to a guided contemplation on compassion. This powerful practice, developed by Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown, was given to us during a recent visit. The practice is optional and instruction will be provided. And then, Snacks! – Food, Conversation, and Meditation is the order for the day. We can do all of that in one shot! Feel free to bring something to share!
—————————————

Feb 20: Book Study – Shambhala: Sacred Path of the Warrior by Chögyam Trungpa – Chapter 12. This Thursday, we will study SSPW as a group. Perhaps this text has been staring at you from the shelf for a while; now is a great opportunity to crack it open. We’ll discuss Chapter 12 together. Try to read the chapter ahead of time, but don’t freak if you’re not all caught up.
—————————————

Feb 27: Shambhala Day Celebration: 6:30PM – Year of the Iron Mouse – Shambhala Day is when we observe the passing of another lunar year according to the Tibetan calendar. It is traditional to celebrate by gathering together and connecting to our richness and brilliance, reaffirming our intentions for the new year. This is also the time when members of the Shambhala community are encouraged to make a financial donation to Shambhala in order to help support the activities of our global activity.

We will practice The Shambhala Sadhana, a profound practice given by the Sakyong that confidently proclaims the fundamental richness of all beings and society. Then we will hear a message from the global community, followed by a good dose of snacks.
